First Day

Well the flight... What can I say, boring, uncomfortable and my fear of flying didn't help my situation. When we got off the plane we didn't get much of an insight into Delhi it was just like any other airport! After we had collected our bags we could see the mob, of what I assume were cab drivers, waiting to usher in unsuspecting tourists into their cars. Luckily we had booked a taxi at the airport so as soon as we left the airport we were away. Our driver confidently placed our bags on top of the car and we started our drive into what seemed like any other city. As soon as we hit the first motorway we were hit by a tidal wave of traffic, the likes of which I a have never seen! The noise of the constant beeping, at first an annoyance, has become the theme tune to the city. On our drive to our hotel I saw more mind blowing things than I have in my short 19 years. I saw whole families on motorbikes with no protective clothing, some as young as 2 or 3! I saw small children playing by the roadside narrowly avoiding cars and coming up to the car when parked begging for money. In this city I have realised (so far) that nobody seems to know where they are going. Our driver stopped about 10 times to ask for directions until we finally arrived at our hotel. After we checked in I passed out in my bed, exhausted and jet lagged. That night we were taken on a brief tour of New Delhi. We were shown the India Gate, which is absolutely beautiful. There were loads of people all enjoying them self and celebrating and of course so many people trying to flog you something. Then we were taken round the the centre of Connought Place, the heart of New Delhi, with it's beautiful gardens and modern metro station, all surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the city. Then it was back to the hotel for my first Indian meal of butter chicken and nan bread... YUM!

The Day Before!

I am aware that nobody is following my blog but I would just like to highlight the fact that I am leaving tomorrow... The thought of flying always out ways the excitement of a trip but I know as soon as I get there the excitement will kick in :)
